What Your Coffee Order Says About You — According to 600+ Reviews
After 600+ cafe visits we have watched thousands of orders go across the bar. We have also noticed patterns. Not scientific, not peer reviewed. Just 600+ observations about the kind of person who orders each drink.
Do not take this too seriously. But also, do not be surprised when it is accurate.
The Double Shot Espresso
You are either a coffee professional, a former Italian, or someone who has given up pretending milk makes anything better. You drink the espresso straight because you want to taste the extraction, not the dairy. You have opinions about crema. You can tell when a shot is over-extracted by looking at it.
You are also the person most likely to be quietly disappointed at every cafe you visit, because you know exactly what a good shot tastes like and most cafes do not hit it.
Your match: Zen Barista (7.8). Perfect timing, every visit.
The Flat White
The sensible Australian. You want coffee and milk in balance, not coffee drowned in milk. You have quietly strong opinions and a low tolerance for nonsense. You tried a latte once, found it milky, and never went back.
Flat white people are the backbone of every good cafe's revenue. You visit 5 days a week, you tip occasionally, and you notice when they change the beans.
Your match: The Twin (7.8). Flawless execution, no fuss.
The Latte
You want coffee but you also want comfort. The latte is a hug in a cup. You do not need to prove anything to anyone. You are the most common order in Australia and you are completely fine with that.
The downside: you are the order most affected by bad milk technique. 80 percent of lattes we score have at least one milk problem. Your drink is the one most cafes get wrong. You deserve better.
Your match: Bellissimo (7.9). Rich, smooth, and the milk is always right.
The Long Black
You are the espresso person who wants to make it last longer. Practical. No nonsense. You probably drink it while reading something or working. The long black is the drink of people who treat coffee as fuel with standards.
You also have the best palate for detecting bad water. A long black in a cafe with old pipes or a dirty machine tastes immediately wrong. You know things other customers do not.
Your match: Coffee Anthology (7.5). Bold, bright, built for sipping.
The Oat Milk Order
You are either lactose intolerant or you decided oat milk tastes better. Both are valid. You are the order that tests a cafe's adaptability. Good cafes have dialled in their alternative milks. Average cafes treat oat milk as an afterthought and charge you 80 cents for the privilege.
The oat milk latte is the hardest drink to make well. It froths differently, burns faster, and separates if the barista is not paying attention. If a cafe makes a great oat latte, the barista is better than average.
Your match: anywhere scoring 7.5+ with us. If they can nail dairy, they have probably dialled in their alternatives too.
The Mocha
You are not here for the coffee. You are here for the chocolate with a caffeine bonus. That is completely fine. But we cannot help you, because we score coffee, not dessert.
No judgement. Okay, a little judgement.
Your match: honestly, anywhere. The chocolate covers everything.
The Chai Latte
You walked into a coffee shop and ordered tea. Bold move. You are either pregnant, quitting caffeine, or you genuinely just like chai. All are valid reasons. You have also just ordered the one drink we definitely do not score.

The Bottom Line
Your coffee order is a personality test you take every morning. The double shot is discipline. The flat white is balance. The latte is comfort. The long black is patience. The oat milk is adaptability.
Whatever you order, order it somewhere that scores 7.0 or above with us. Life is too short for a 5.8.
